The Quill Water Treatment Plant Rehabilitation Project consists of replacing aging and obsolete water treatment equipment at the Quill Water Treatment Facility. The facility is currently permitted to treat up to 6 million gallons per day (MGD); however, the existing system is only capable of treating 1 million gallons per day due limitations of the existing technology. The City relies on groundwater wells to provide an additional 5 MGD to meet user demand.  Completion of the upgrades will allow the treatment plant to treat up to 6 million gallons per day of surface water. Treating and using surface water will allow for a reduction to groundwater well usage; therefore, preserving storage of groundwater for reserves and drought situations. The rehabilitation project will include replacing the existing diatomaceous earth (DE) filter system with a package filtration system, an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system, a coagulation and polymer system, and other pumps and process piping. Carson City Public Works is in the design phase of the Project with the plan to complete design by the end of 2023.
